A family is a communion in the presence of God, throughout Bible the Lord works in a family. We look up to the Holy Family with a lot of reverence and try to understand the mystery and learn about family and its consecration. A man and a woman united in marriage, together with their children, form a family (CCC 2202). God used his Word to create everything, the same Word became the stone for the foundation of a family and the Holy Family is a reflection of Gods mighty plans.

To lead the Holy Family God chose Joseph a carpenter who had to be precise in judgements and accurate with dimensions at his work. His job was very labour demanding which signifies the strength of Joseph, Bible shows Joseph as a person who is strong in silence. When Joseph found Mary was with a child before marriage he decides not to put her to shame or leave her to the laws of Jews but decided to dismiss her quietly, but later he understands the plan of God and commits himself into taking Mary as his wife (Matthew 1:19-25). Joseph was the supporting pillar of Mary in her hard times after taking her as his wife.

Mary was an ordinary girl like any other girl with dreams for her life but the favoured one in the sight of the Lord, chosen and set apart for the most important plan of God, the plan which is revealed through the Angel Gabriel to Virgin Mary with the words beginning with greetings coming from heaven followed by the message from the Lord about his begotten son Jesus, the Holy spirit and the power of the Most High was the answer to Marys question of how can this be for she was a virgin, and the firstborn will be Holy and he will be called Son of God (Luke 1:26-37). Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word (Luke1:38), the greatest submission towards the plan of God and the joy of heaven to these words of Mary is out of human imagination. Mary had to face the society, all her relatives for conceiving before marriage, she stayed loyal to her words of submission to the Lord.

Joseph and Mary expecting a child with great difficulty and pain started a journey from Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem in Judea, events of this journey are untold in Bible. Drawing a picture of Joseph and Mary travelling with a group to the destination reminds us about our untold Journey of this life to our destination, heaven. Mary was near to her time to give birth and her journey on a donkey with Joseph beside her comes into our minds, even we dream and hope that we hurdle through the pains of our life in a similar manner. Unable to find a place in the inn, she gave birth to her firstborn and wrapped in bands of cloth and laid in a manger (Luke 2:7). The journey with anxiety and pain turned out to be joyful with angels declaring good news of great joy for all the people. Mary gives birth to Jesus, her baby; saviour of the world and becomes Mother Mary. Joseph and Mother Mary receive Jesus and become one family, The Holy Family.

Even our journey of life will be joyful and a good news when we invite Jesus with a submissive heart like Joseph and Mother Mary. Jesus is The Word made flesh, image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). The Holy Family wouldn’t be holy or complete without Jesus, in the Holy Family he was obedient to Joseph and Mother Mary growing in favour with God and men (Luke 2:51-52). The presence of Jesus in the Holy Family tells us that no family is complete without Jesus.

Heavenly Father

May all the families submit into your mighty plan, let the example of Joseph with fearless faith and leading the family by Gods Plan inspire husbands and the submission of Mother Mary to the Lord and Joseph inspire wives, may the children grow in favour with God and men with wisdom of Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, help us to live with hope for true joy of the world, Jesus Christ.

Joseph and Mother Mary pray for us, Emmanuel the Lord is with us!!!
